  A 16-year-old pupil of Angus Memorial Senior High School, Jemimah Marcus, who won the Lagos State Spelling Bee competition, will become a one-day governor. Marcus emerged winner on Tuesday after a fierce battle with other students. She was presented with a cash sum of N250,000 at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa secretariat, Ikeja, where the grand finale took place. Ajose Sotin of Topo Senior Grammar School, Badagry, was the first runner-up and got N150,000, while Rhema Edeh of Denton Junior Grammar School, Ebute-Metta, was the second runner-up, with a cash prize of N100,000. While congratulating the pupils, the state Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, advised them to commit more energy and time to their studies. She said, “As it is the practice, the one-day governor will be awarded the Lagos State Government’s scholarship to pursue any course of his or her interest in any university in the country.   Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has said he cannot defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or any other political party The Rivers state governor made this known in a statement released on Friday, December 11. In the statement which was released by his media aide, Kelvin Ebiri, Governor Wike said since he lacks the ability to defect to the APC or another political party, he will continue to do what he can to ensure the survival of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The governor said this after claiming that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP is causing disunity in the party and are not interested in taking over from the APC in 2023. His words: “I will not allow anybody to kill PDP. They have capacity to move to APC. I don’t and I cannot move to APC. “So, anybody that tries to do something to destroy PDP, I will not allow you.   Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has lambasted the Uche Secondus-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking in an interview with  Channels Television , the Rivers Governor accused the NWC of sowing seed of discord among PDP governors. Governor Wike stated that the leadership of the party is not working towards reclaiming power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023. He stated that Secondus and the NWC were only interested in remaining in power and clinching the presidency in 2023. Wike said the PDP  “ought to have harvested from the inefficiency of the APC; from the maladministration of the APC.” Wike who vowed not to leave the PDP, stated that he will never allow anybody kill the former ruling party.
